The Lottery

Author note: this is about symbols and their roles in a story.
Have you ever thought about the lottery? When I think about I think about something good.  But in the story "The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson it’s not. It is the opposite of what you think. What happen is that there is dot on a paper and a family member goes up and picks a paper and if there the family that gets it. There family draws again until someone in their family get and it and that person dies.
There are a lot of symbols such as the rock. How they are symbols is that when you think of little boys play with rock you think that everything is good and nothing is going to happen. But when you read on you find out that they use the rocks for killing someone. Another one is the black box where they put the piece of paper and the one with a dot on it. How it is a symbol is that it pick who is going to die and who is not. It also show that people are scared of it and care about it is that they don’t want to change it they want to keep it the same as it all way was.
A symbols in a story can be good and can bad like it the lottery the two that I talk about were bad. But in other story they could be good just depending on what the story is about and what the author is try to teach you.

  1. a lot of good thing on stating the symbols. but there was many confusing sentences to read with words that should be there but there not.

  2. Your relations and supporting details for your symbols are very good, but try looking over your spelling, punctuation, and sentence fluency. Overall you had great examples and did exactly what you said you would in your author's note.
